Fitting adjustments and restyling · Couture Bascule

Fitting adjustments and restyling in Uccle.

You may love a piece that no longer fits as it should: a loose waist, a shoulder that extends too far, a dress you would like closer to the body. Fitting adjustments restore comfort while respecting the original line. Restyling goes further: changing the look of the garment while keeping what makes it special.

Fitting adjustments

Taking in or letting out, where the garment’s construction and available fabric allow it.
Shaping
Dresses, jackets and coats: bringing the garment closer to the body while keeping freedom of movement.
Shoulder adjustments
Adjusting the shoulders of a jacket or coat, with each garment assessed individually.

Before any work begins

What I look at before adjusting the fit

  1. Comfort and ease

What pulls, what gapes and what restricts movement: this is where fitting adjustments begin.

  2. The seams

Their position and the fabric inside them show how much can be taken in or let out.

  3. The garment’s balance

Pockets, darts, buttons and drape must all sit correctly once the piece has been altered.

To make the most of your visit

What to bring to the workshop.

  1. The garment concerned.
  2. The clothes you normally wear underneath, to assess comfort and volume.
  3. A photograph or reference garment if you have a specific restyling idea in mind.

The workshop is open Tuesday to Saturday, from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm and from 1.30 pm to 6 pm, at Rue Vanderkindere 522 in Uccle. You can also tell me what you need in writing before you visit.

Frequently asked questions

Your questions

Can a garment be made larger?
Sometimes. It depends on the fabric available in the seams and how the piece is made. I can tell you after examining it.
Can a suit be completely restyled?
Yes, the work can range from a small alteration to fully restyling a suit. What is possible depends on its cut and fabric.
How much does this service cost?
I do not publish prices online: the cost depends on the piece, its fabric and the work involved. I will give you a price at the workshop after reviewing your enquiry.
How long will it take?
It depends on the work and how busy the workshop is. If you have a deadline, a special occasion or a trip, mention it when we first speak: I will tell you what is possible.
